Carlisle Car Rental

Carlisle is located in Cumberland County. It was established in 1751 and was incorporated in 1782. A major part of the original settlers were Scottish-Irish. The city is the county seat.

1. Visit Carlisle Barracks: One can visit the historic Carlisle Barracks where Native American children were once schooled. It was home to the U.S. Army Cavalry School from 1838 to 1871.
2. Tour Dickinson College: It is the first college in United States of America. A liberal arts college, it was chartered in 1783 just a few days after the American Revolution ended.
3. Visit the Army Heritage Museum: This museum houses traveling exhibits and
themed galleries which tell the story of American soldiers. Also, on the grounds
is the mile long Army Heritage Trail.  While walking on this trail one can observe
many military artifacts dating back to the French and Indian War.
4. Visit the Cumberland County Historical Society’s Museum: The exhibit highlights pictographic drawings made by students in the first decades of the school and also examines the evolution of art instruction at the school. During the period from 1879 to 1918 more than 12,000 American Indian children attended the Carlisle Indian Industrial School.
5. Visit Carlisle Antique shops: The Downtown Carlisle area has many antique shops. One can spend hours in the town browsing through the collections of many shop owners. From polished pottery and display cases made from antique windowsills and frames to vintage jewelry, over 100 different vendors can be found at Bedford Street Antiques.
