1. Visit the MGM Grand Casino: This Las Vegas based casino retains 75,000 square feet of floor space and Art Deco motifs. 4. Hart Plaza: This colossal concrete area at the foot of Woodward Avenue starts from Jefferson Avenue to the Detroit River. Isamu Noguchi planned it in 1960 as a public space. It still contains his remarkable twisted spire and fountain. There is a stage and amphitheater. Ethnic riverfront festivals are also held here. Hart Plaza gives access to a riverfront walkway, which is an amiable fishing spot with a remarkable outlook of Canada to the south.

5. GM World: This is a massive showroom exhibiting the products and services of the world’s largest automaker. Audio and visual product information, triggered by sensors is displayed. The best thing is that you will get free admission to this wonderful and rare display of a rotating roster of 26 vehicles. There are four divisions on the display: ‘Touring and Luxury’, ‘Family and Neighborhood’, ‘Outdoors and Sports Enthusiasts’.

10. Take a trip to the historic Fort Wayne: For a slice of American history, the best place you could go to in Detroit is the historic Fort Wayne. The original Limestone Barracks, dating back to 1848, are very much there still, and still a hugely impressive sight. Walk through the fort and you can picturise a day in the fort when it was first constructed.
