Originally an Indian village, Kalamazoo means “the mirage of reflecting river.” Only 35 minutes from Lake Michigan, this is a land of hills, lakes, and diverse culture and is home to Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo College. Top things to see and do in Kalamazoo include: 1.The Kalamazoo Mall. This four-block long mall was the first outdoor pedestrian mall in the United States. 2. Bronson Park. Bronson Park is the only location in the state of Michigan where Abraham Lincoln made a public speech. The park experienced devastated losses when a tornado tore through it in 1980. 3. Historic District. Drive along Stuart Avenue, South Street, or the Vine Historic district to be taken back in time to 19th century Victorian mansions. Continue the home tour with a look at Parkwyn Village, a cooperative village designed by famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
