5 Things You Must Do in Mobile

Mobile Car Rental

This town is the third most populous city in the U.S. state of Alabama. The city's name is derived from the presence of the Mobile (Mauvile or Maubila) Indians in the area at the time of founding. Mobile is the only saltwater port in Alabama.

1. Visit Fort Conde.
Located in Mobile is a reconstruction, at 4/5 scale, of part of the original French Fort Condé at the site, also known as Fort Carlota (under Spanish rule) and Fort Charlotte (under British rule). Mobile was originally founded, by Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, in 1702.

2. Go to Battleship Memorial Park
Right on the shore of Mobile Bay, you’ll find a military park. See its collection of notable aircraft and museum ships including the South Dakota-class battleship USS Alabama and Gato-class submarine USS Drum.

3. The Mobile Carnival Museum
Here the city's Mardi Gras history and memorabilia found a home and the exhibition was  designed to document the variety of floats and displays seen during the festival season.

4. Take a look at the National African American Archives
You’ll find this Museum in the former Davis Avenue branch of the Mobile Public Library. That extraordinary Museum claims to be  "the only library for Negroes from 1932 until the mid-1960s.

5. Visit Gulf Coast Exploreum
Quite a list of atrractions speak for a visit to this Exploreum! A non-profit science center located in downtown Mobile. The Exploreum houses the only domed IMAX Theater on the Gulf Coast, the only full-scale chemistry lab where visitors can participate in experiments, and the only 3-D virtual theater.
