Jackson, Mississippi, once a trading post operated by a French-Canadian trader, is now the capital of the state.  Jackson hosts the USA International Ballet Competition and is also home to a multitude of museums and cultural centers.  Among this assembly are these top five things to do while visiting Jackson:

5.The Mississippi Petrified Forest, a Registered National Natural Landmark, is located approximately 20 miles north of Jackson.  Points of interest can be viewed along a nature trail.  A museum, educational exhibits, a campground, and other features are also available to visitors.
