5 Things to do in and aroundSan Bernadino,CASan Bernardino is the center of a growing and active metropolitan area that includes the cities of Ontario and Riverside in southern California. It sits at the foot of the San Bernardino Mountains east of Los Angeles. The area was first settled by Spanish explorers (mission est. in 1810) and then a group of Mormons arrived in the 1850s and developed the present city as mainly a trade center bordered by citrus groves and vineyards. Eventually other industries such as aerospace and electronics became prominent in the area’s economy. The city is also the seat of the San Bernardino National Forest, which lies to the northeast, resort and recreational areas are located nearby. Population: 199,000. 1. Arrowhead – a natural geographic formation of bare rock on the side of a mountain near San Bernardino. It was thought by Native Americans that the natural arrowhead was pointing to the hot springs which had healing powers and therefore was considered a holy site; the Mormons thought it pointed to San Bernardino itself. The Arrowhead is 1,375 feet in length and 449 feet in width and even though it is so perfect it looks like it could be manmade it is in fact naturally occurring and definitely worth seeing. The Arrowhead is located in the foothills just north of San Bernardino's Wildwood Park at 40th Street and Waterman Avenue.
2. Asistencia Mission de San Gabriel est.1810 - California was established by a series of Spanish missions that were built up the coast by Spanish missionaries coming up from Mexico. Earthquakes and other disasters have had a hand in the condition of the original mission site but the current site was built in 1830 also had a very colorful history and eventually passed into private hands. In 1925 the county of San Bernardino took possession of the property and went onto restore what they could of the mission that is 1.8 mile from Interstate 10 in Redlands.

This is a great hands-on museum for the kid in all of us with lots of fun interactive exhibits and activities for all ages. Visitors can discover all the various stages of motor development, the inhabitants of a saltwater reef, and a day in the life of a hospital as well as a puppet theater and a dress up room where kids can pretend and create a fantastic adventure all their own.

This estate-like museum, started by Edward Eberle and Dean Stout, began as a privately-held facility for the men to showcase their combined collections of European and Asian art, most of which date from the 16th to 19th centuries. The museum space was designed by the founders, and features rare and some priceless furniture, paintings, porcelain, crystal, and rugs. Surrounding the museum is a beautifully manicured, 16-acre campus. A definite must-see for any art history enthusiasts!

This museum features more than 1500 items; Robert V. Fullerton Museum is a wonderful treat for those who want to add some culture to their stay in the San Bernardino area. The museum’s collection spans centuries and prides itself on pieces from ancient Egypt and Italy, along with contemporary works by Andy Warhol, David Hockney, and John Lennon (yes, Yoko Ono's late husband). It is located on the campus of CSU-SB; the museum also hosts a number special exhibits each quarter.
