Five Things You Must Do in Lihue

Lihue Car Rental

Lihue is the second largest town on the Hawaiian island of Hawaii.  The city’s history can be traced back to an ancient era when it housed the county courthouse of Kauai. The city’s name translated into Hawaiian means “cold chill”. The term derives from the cold wind that often sweeps across its terrain.

1. Visit the Kauai Museum: The museum is located in a building that previously housed the location of the Kauai Public Library. The museum also houses a splendid collection of seashells, Hawaiian quilts and artifacts from a bygone era.  For more information on the Museum click on the link.

2. Trek to the Waimea Canyon: The Waimea Canyon is truly a dramatic sight to behold. Carved thousands of years ago by the rivers that flowed from Mount Waialeale’s summit, the canyon is bathed in a changing intensity of hues as the sun reflects along the canyon’s stone walls.  For more information on the Canyon click on the link.

3. Visit the Kilhona Plantations: Gaylord Parke Wilcox, founder of Lihue Sugar Plantation owns this sprawling plantation. The rear of the plantation features a quaint restaurant where you can enjoy delicacies on the balcony enjoying the views of the mountains.

4. Sea Arch at Marriott: Sea arches are a common feature seen throughout the Hawaiian Islands. This one in Kalapaki Beach stands out from the rest due to its unnaturally large size. Sea arches are formed when the molten lava meets the cold ocean waters and cools rapidly.  For more information on the Sea Arches click on the link.

5. Wailua Waterfall:  This 80 tiered waterfall was made famous when it was featured in the hit television series, Fantasy Island .The best time to visit the place is early morning when the sun renders it with a crystal-like glitter as it cascades down the rocks. Brave visitors can trek the slippery rocks and descend to the bottom to take a dip in the small pool that the falls create.  For more information on the Waterfall click on the link.
