Corvallis is located in Western Oregon on the river Willamette in Willamette Valley. It draws its importance from being a county seat and home to Oregon State University. Originally named Maysville, the city was renamed by the fur trappers in the area arriving from France. The present name is a Latin phrase which means ‘valley’s heart’. The legislative assembly bestowed it in 1853.
