The name of Keesler AFB comes from aviator 2d Lt Samuel Reeves Keesler Jr., who was a Mississippi native and lost his life during I World War, in France. Keesler AFB was built in 1941 and it has been in use ever since. Keesler AFB is home to Second Air Force and the 81st Training Wing of the Air Education and Training Command. The latter is dedicated to train airmen, right after their basic training is completed.
