It's Snowing! Its that time of year again when the trees have shaken off their amber coat to reveal the stark bare branches of winter. The highlands of New South Wales and Victoria the peaks are covered in a white blanket of snow. This years ski season will prove to be bountiful with the snow arriving early. We may be a sunburnt country but we are also blessed with white gold in certain areas in winter. Here are a couple of suggested Australian Ski fields for you to try out this winter. The Snowy MountainsThredbo was brought to life in the 1950's once the potential of Crackenback Peak and Friday Flat was realised. Since then the town and ski fields have grown to resemble a European ski town. Thredbo has a ski field for all ages and abilities. While you're in the Snowy Mountains, pull into Cooma and visit the Man from Snowy River statue and feel part of the legend. Victorian SkiDown in Victoria the ski fields are nice and close to the capital of Melbourne. Falls Creek Resort is the largest ski resort in Victoria qnd is only 4 hours drive from Melbourne or just a pleasant two hour road trip from Albury airport. The resort offers a day care facility and all the luxuries you would expect to find in a resort, with their Après-ski equal to any offered world wide.So head for our snow covered peaks this winter with VroomVroomVroom and enjoy the winter wonderland that is on offer. Snow Rentals and VroomVroomVroomIf you are planning on a trip to the snow and would like to access your location via car hire this information should be helpfull.Hire in snow conditions is very different than hire in normal city/airport locations, car hire suppliers offer snow cover to renters who wish to take the rental vehicles above the snow line. The snow line is what the suppliers consider a location where there is snow. Avis and Budget will not allow their vehicles above the snow line. Thrifty and Hertz allow certain vehicles above the snow line such as Full size sedans standard size sedan 4WD's and 8 seater busses, provided snow cover is purchased. Snow cover for Thrifty and Hertz vehicles is AU$22 per day this leaves a liability of up to AU$3300. Europcar also provides snow cover and vehicles. However they will select vehicles suitable for snow conditions and include snow cover in the price of the vehicle. For availability Europcar or Vroom Vroom Vroom need to be contacted via phone or email. Europcar is the only company to offer snow chains in their Snow Cover for vehicle rentals, 5 days and over. This is a voucher redemption system and locations for collection will be given at the time of hire. Ski racks are not supplied and it's not recommended to fit your own on a rental vehicle. Write to us about your travelsHave you been on a road trip lately?? What did you do? Where did you go? If you have a story to tell - the kids had you in stitches, your hubby drove you insane, or your girlfriend had you stop at every roadside fruit stall.
