Are you looking for cheap Detroit Airport car rental?

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, or also known as Detroit Metro Airport or DTW, is situated on the Detroit suburb of Romulus in Michigan. It is also 7 miles away from the Willow Run Airport. DTW is the busiest airport in the state and one of the largest transportation hubs in the USA. The McNamara Terminal is occupied by SkyTeam members Delta Air Lines and Air France. Both airlines offer both domestic and international flights. The terminal serves as the airlines' main gateway to Asia and Europe. Detroit Metropolitan Airport is also Spirit Airlines' second largest base.

Wayne County Airport Authority manages and operates one of the country's most modernized and recently-expanded airports. The Detroit Metropolitan Airport has two terminals, six major runways, 145 in-service gates, and on-site hotel. The Concourse A of McNamara Terminal currently holds the record of the second longest airport terminal building in the world with a measurement of 1 mile or 1.6 kilometers. It is just .06 mile short of Beijing Capital Airport's Terminal 3, which is located at the Kansai International Airport.

The McNamara Terminal features an 89-acre parking space with 10 levels making it one of the world's largest parking structures. It has a transportation center, two luggage check-in locations, transport luggage conveyors and bridges, pedestrian bridge, three offices, two electrical substations, and six restrooms. There are several ground transportation options available at the airport, but most travelers prefer renting a car. Most Detroit Airport car rental companies can be found on the northeast corner of the airport.

Do you want to know more about Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport?

Wayne County Airport was conceived in 1927, but the construction was finished in 1929. The first airport landing occurred in 1930 and Thompson Aeronautical Corporation inaugurated their service from Michigan's most populated county on that same year. Wayne County Airport became the base of the U.S. Army Air Forces' Michigan Air National Guard operations between 1931 and 1945.

The U.S. Army announced that they will release the Wayne County Airport in 1944 and it was later on opened to serve Wayne County and Detroit. The name of the airport was changed to Detroit-Wayne Major Airport in 1947.
Wayne County Road Commission and American Airlines signed a 30-year contract in 1956. The contract calls for the airline to shift their operations from the Willow Run Airport to the Detroit-Wayne Major AirportAmerican Airlines was first among other airlines that operate out of Willow Run Airport to agree to the shifting proposal.

A year after the contract signing, they started the construction of the L.C. Smith Terminal, which features a 10,500-foot runway, hotel, and restaurant. In 1958, the airport's name was changed to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport and was granted an international jet craft airport certificate. Terminal 2, or also known as the North Terminal, was established in 1966 and on the same year, six airlines from Willow Run Airport transferred to Detroit Metro Airport. The master plan of the Detroit Airport was finally completed in 1972 and it included there the addition of two runways.

Through the course of its operation, the Detroit Metropolitan Airport has undergone several changes and improvements, including the expansion of L.C. Smith Terminal, modifications of Concourse “G” and International Terminal. In 2000, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport sets the record for having the most number of passengers in 2000. The airport serviced 35,535,080 passengers during that year, which had beaten its old record in 1999 by 4.4 percent.

The world-famous McNamara Terminal, which was formerly called Northwest WorldGateway was established in 2002. It replaced the Davey Terminal, which was Northwest Airline's principal hub until it was closed on that same year. The A concourse consist of 64 gates and 12 of those are used for processing international departures and arrivals. The B and C concourses, on the other hand, have 58 gates that are used for processing the regional flights of Delta.
