Grosse Pointe Far Historical Society was founded in 1945 to promote the preservation of the local heritage and to share the knowledge with the community and tourists. The Society works to make the history of this little community as vital, relevant and accessible as possible. The Historical Society has a permanent collection of exhibitions that are put on display for the tourists, as well as for the locals.

The Grosse Pointe Far War Memorial is the former home of the Russel Alger family. The house was initially an Institute of Arts and it was later on donated to the community with two purposes: to serve as a perpetual memorial for veteran, as well as serving as a continuing centre for educational and charitable activities. Nowadays, the War Memorial has plaques in the memory of those brave soldiers who served in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, as well as Operation Desert Storm.
