Best time to visit Honolulu

The peak season in Honolulu is during winter which is between December to March. However, the island gets crowded with tourists and surfers during that time. Many surfing competitions are held during winter when the weather is wonderfully warm. The Honolulu City Lights also hosts a month-long of festive activities every December. If you prefer cheaper car rentals, hotel rates, and airline prices, then the best time to travel to Honolulu is between September to November. Between May and August is also a good time to go there if you don't mind a humid weather.

Driving tips in Honolulu

Many tourists are distracted by the beautiful scenery that they often stop for photo opportunities. This sometimes causes traffic and accidents so make sure to keep your eyes on the road and keep on driving your rental car. Also avoid making U-Turns on Hawaii highways and maintain the speed limit since speed detection is wide-spread in the area. The rush hour traffic in Honolulu is between 6 to 8:30 in the morning and 3:30 to 6 in the afternoon. It is better to avoid those hours when travelling. Before you start exploring Honolulu, it is advisable to check the road situation at Honolulu My Way where you can get real time traffic updates through traffic cameras and the weather forecast at AccuWeather so you can plan your itinerary better.

Hop in your car rental and start exploring Honolulu

With your rental car you may want to visit historic and cultural landmarks. There are also beaches and small towns located off the beaten path to find. You can relax and do nothing, but it's more fun to visit a volcano or watch Pacific Ocean whales!

Whatever you decide to do while you're in Honolulu, you'll be glad that your transportation is worry-free. Thanks to VroomVroomVroom and a car rental, one can relax the days away at the beach or explore all the landmarks, attractions and natural wonders of the island paradise!

Are you ready for the biggest challenge in Honolulu?

If you're up for the exercise, you might spend a morning hiking up to the Diamond Head State Monument in Leahi. You will never forget the breathtaking panorama you can see of Honolulu and Waikiki! It's a unique spot and you won't find anything like it elsewhere.

As the biggest tourist attraction on the island of Oahu (other than beaches), Diamond Head is a 350-acre crater that can usually be seen from your plane window if you fly into Honolulu Airport.

The hike is not very advanced – locals and hardcore hikers have been known to run it – but be warned that there are 2 lengthy staircases (74 and 99 steps) and a 225-feet long tunnel that may be unpleasant if you're claustrophobic.

The park at Diamond Head State Monument opens at 6 in the morning and closes at 6 in the evening, and visiting costs $1 per person or $5 if you're in your rental car. Please be advised that the parking lot is at an elevation of 200 feet, and it's your last chance for a restroom break! If you make it all the way up to the summit, you'll be standing at 761 feet of elevation!
