Reasons to rent a car in Honolulu

Honolulu is not only the capital of the state of Hawaii, it's also a vibrant center of fun, entertainment and activities! There are dozens of places in Honolulu to rent a car, and locations for Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, and Thrifty are convenient to most popular spots. If you've made the wise decision to compare car rental rates using VroomVroomVroom, you're probably already thinking of all the adventures you can have, or all the places you can drive to relax by the ocean and soak in the sun.

Honolulu is spread across the southeastern shores of Oahu and includes the famous Waikiki. Between Makapuu Point and Pearl Harbor, your rental car will help you to find art, culture, shopping and historic places! Home to landmarks like Aloha Tower, the Bishop Museum, the Iolani Palace, the Hawaii Theatre, the Kawaiahao Church, the Mission Houses and the statues of King Kamehameha I and Duke Kahanamoku, Honolulu is a great place to have a rental vehicle because you can find, visit and take souvenir photos at all of these awesome and beautiful historic structures.

You'll also get to enjoy entertainment and local culture. Honolulu is full of fine dining and nightlife – enjoy the great deal you got on your rental car when you drive over to Waikiki for dinner, or out for a drink (with your designated driver, of course) to Chinatown's underground bars.

We also provide car rental on-site at the airport

Located on the western end of the urban part of Honolulu, the Honolulu International Airport is a principal gateway to the state of Hawaii. Six car rental companies are conveniently available on the airport grounds, with their registration counters close to where you claim your baggage. Four more options for renting cars are off-site but provide customers with shuttles, picking up and dropping off along the center median on the ground level outside baggage claim. Of course, the easiest way to rent a car is through VroomVroomVroom so you can easily just pick up your rental car when you arrive at the airport.

The airport is just six miles from downtown Honolulu. Your rental car will also give you easy access to the beautiful Waikiki area and its world-famous beach, about 10 miles from Honolulu International. Surfing, kayaking and sunbathing are extremely popular activities in Honolulu, as is attending a famous luau or watching hula dancers!

Are you flying to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam?

The United States Air Force also operates an airfield in Honolulu. Formerly known as Hickam Air Force Base until 2010, Hickam Field is now part of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. Hickam, named after Lieutenant Colonel Horace Hickam, shares runways with Honolulu International. Hickam Field has an Enterprise car rental location at the AMC Terminal in Building 2028, serving eligible active and retired members of the Uniformed Services as well as their dependents.

Are you ready for the biggest challenge in Honolulu?

If you're up for the exercise, you might spend a morning hiking up to the Diamond Head State Monument in Leahi. You will never forget the breathtaking panorama you can see of Honolulu and Waikiki! It's a unique spot and you won't find anything like it elsewhere.

As the biggest tourist attraction on the island of Oahu (other than beaches), Diamond Head is a 350-acre crater that can usually be seen from your plane window if you fly into Honolulu Airport.

The hike is not very advanced – locals and hardcore hikers have been known to run it – but be warned that there are 2 lengthy staircases (74 and 99 steps) and a 225-feet long tunnel that may be unpleasant if you're claustrophobic.

The park at Diamond Head State Monument opens at 6 in the morning and closes at 6 in the evening, and visiting costs $1 per person or $5 if you're in your rental car. Please be advised that the parking lot is at an elevation of 200 feet, and it's your last chance for a restroom break! If you make it all the way up to the summit, you'll be standing at 761 feet of elevation!
