The population of La Place, according to the 2010 census, is of 32.134 residents. La Place was settled as a farming village in the 18th century, during the French colonial area, and later on in 1883, the first railroad of the city was established. Although it is quite small, it has a lot of historical attractions and wonderful landscapes to offer its tourists.

The festival takes place every October and it features good music, and of course great food, including Andouille, the delectable sausage which the festival was named after.
