According to the 2000 census, Madison has a population of 12,000 residents, while its area is of nearly 9 square miles. The first settlers arrived on the territory of Madison in 1806 and the town was incorporated just 3 years later, on April 1, 1809. The first railroad of Indiana was built through the city between 1836 and 1847. In a more recent history, Madison became more famous in the world thanks to two movies filmed here: Some Came Running and Madison.
