Situated in Pennsylvania, United States, Mercer is actually at the middle of the distance between the beautiful cities of Pittsburgh, Erie, Chicago and New York City. Mercer was established in 1921 and it currently has a population of more than 2,300 residents on an area of 1.2 square miles (3 square kilometers). The borough was named after famous physician Brigadier General Hugh Mercer. Mercer is not only well known for the notable people who were born here, but also for the many festivals that are hosted by the city every year, one of the most important such festivals being the Penn's Woods West Arts & Crafts Festival, which takes place every February.
