The large complex of buildings at the New Canaan Historical Society includes an 1845 pharmacy, the studios of 19th-century sculptor John Rogers, a 1799 schoolhouse, a costume museum, and the Hanford-Silliman House (ca. 1764). At the New Canaan Nature Centre, you can explore 40 acres of woodland trails or visit the Discovery Centre, gardens, and cider house. The Silvermine Guild Arts Centre offers galleries of fine arts and crafts, theatrical and musical presentations, and an historic inn.
1. Visit the Summer Theatre of New Canaan
You will witness a professionally produced summer theatre experience. The performances provide exciting plays and offer learning opportunities for many of the region's talented actors.
2. Visit John Rogers Studio
He was called "the people's sculptor" in the later 19th century. The studio shows some of the artist's famous groups of statuary, many sculpted on site.
3. Stroll around the Town Centre
New Canaan has an amazing town centre. The downtown, tree-lined streets have brick sidewalks, antique lamp posts and stores/restaurant on both sides. It is a perfect place to walk around, take a night stroll, and a day of shopping and going out to eat. The New Canaan Nature Centre is a great place to bring the young ones where they can learn about different animals and plants. Live animals come almost daily and children are allowed to pet them. they go on nature walks, do activities, and even offer summer camp.
4. Relax at Waveny Park in New Canaan
It is great for everyone, you can swim in the new, massive outdoor pool, play tennis, baseball, soccer, and tour the Waveny Mansion. You can even walk though trails throughout the woods. A great place to exercise and spend the day.
5. Enjoy yourself at Chings Table
Rated as the best Chinese food several times consecutively by Zagat Magazine, Chings Table offers upscale Chinese cuisine that will make your mouth water. The atmosphere is fancy, yet very inviting and friendly.
