Ridgecrest is a city located in Indian Wells Valley, Kern County, California, United States of America, close to China Lake. Ridgecrest was formerly known as Crumville. In present, Ridgecrest has a population of almost 30.000 residents and an area of 21 square miles. The city, settled in 1912 and incorporated in 1963 is now a company oriented community, thanks to the businesses developing in the area. The city of Ridgecrest is near four mountain ranges that surround it: Sierra Nevada, Cosos, Argus Range and El Paso Mountains. Ridgecrest is the home of Mark Hoppus, a member of Blink 182.

Big and Little Petroglyph Canyons are two landforms on which can be seen Paleo-Indian and Native American petroglyphs, also known as rock art. The canyons have more than 20.000 images and the archaeological resources available within this Ridgecrest attraction are indisputable.
