Farrall and Elijah A. Alley in 1891. They decided together to name it Shawnee, like the American Indian tribe Shawnee. One year later, the population of the settlement was already of 250 residents. Mabee - Gerrer Museum of Art, also known as MGMoA is located within the area of Shawnee. The facility has a collection of more than 3500 works of art and spans over a period of more than 6000. The art is related to cultures from all around the world and one of the main exhibits is a mummy, the only one existing in the area of Oklahoma. The museum opened in 1919 and is located in the same building of Shawnee since 1979. It also has a small eatery and a gift shop selling books and publications art-related and educational toys.

Red Bud Park
 is a beautiful park of Shawnee. It was built in the 1920s and is the home of many old trees, a lot of playgrounds and tot lots. The park also has picnic areas and walking paths for those who love to exercise in the open air.

 is a Mexican restaurant. The lovely eatery is a family business and it opened in Shawnee several years ago. The food is homemade style and the dishes belong to the Mexican cuisine. The plates are always fresh and come hot and in large portions.
