Sylva is a beautiful city located in the middle of Jackson County, North Carolina, United States of America. The small city of Sylva is the county seat of Jackson County and has a population of approximately 2500 residents on an area of a little more than 3 square miles. The history of Sylva begins with general E. R. Hampton who owned a large part of the land in the area. When the town received a post office he asked his daughter to name it. She liked very much a handyman who worked in their home, a Danish named William D. Sylva, so, she chose to name the city Sylva. The town was incorporated in 1889.
