Wylie is a suburb of Dallas and is located near to Lake Lavon and Lake Ray Hubbard. Wylie was incorporated in 1887 and named in honor of Civil War veteran W.D. Wylie. Three years after the incorporation, the city had 239 residents and the first school was built then. In present, Wylie has approximately 40,000 residents and an area of 35.3 square miles, of which 14.3 miles are water. Lake Lavon is a reservoir located near Wylie, impounded in 1953. It has an area of 21,400 acres and a shore length of 83 miles. This lake offers a lot of recreation possibilities, this is why in the area it is very appreciated and considered a good place for families to spend a few hours in the middle of the nature. The lake is home to a large number of fish species and among them crappie, blue catfish and white bass.

Lake Ray Hubbard, also known as Forney Lake is another reservoir located near Wylie. It has an area of 22,745 acres and is currently a property of the city of Dallas. The lake was impounded in 1968 and since then, it is an important attraction of Wylie and other cities in the area. In the waters of the lake there are populations of channel catfish, white crappie and stripped bass.

Southfork Ranch or Duncan Acres is the famous mansion that appeared in the TV series Dallas. It was built near Wylie in 1970 by Joe Duncan and named in honor of his family. In present, this wonderful house is an event center, very important for the Texas communities near Wylie.
