DeRidder is the parish seat of Beauregard Parish in Louisiana, the United States of America. DeRidder is a small and charming locality with about 10.000 locals living in an area of just 8 square miles. DeRidder bears the name of Ella de Ridder, one of the 13 children of a Dutch family. Ella de Ridder ran from the Netherlands to the United States of America and her family presumed she was dead but found soon about her whereabouts. Her brother in law was a wealthy railroad businessman. When he bought the first railroad in the state, he named the town after her. Other notable residents of DeRidder include singer Chris Cagle and writer Jennifer Weiner.

The Hanging Jail
is a historical building with a very distinctive feature. The building was raised in a Gothic style and most windows have iron bars because in the past it was used as a jail. When the jail was in use, people on the street could see prisoners waving. In 1928, a double execution took place in the jail and since then, this former county jail is known as the Hanging Jail, even if no other executions took place in the building. Since 1982 the building is no longer a jail and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.


Beauregard Museum
is the museum of the Beauregard Parish and it is situated in DeRidder. This DeRidder museum has unique collections of china and antique furniture from the early stages of development of the parish.


Lois Loftin Doll Museum
is another great museum located in DeRidder, right next to the historical museum. This is the house of more than 3000 dolls and opened in 1927. Since then, great exhibitions of different types of dolls took place in the house of this great attraction of DeRidder.
