The gardens opened to the public of Fallston in 1930 thanks to socialite Harvey S. Ladew on an area which he bought in order to build his estate. The grounds of the garden have 15 rooms and each room is devoted to one plant, color or theme. The topiary was influenced by Ladew's travel to England where he often went for hunting. The topiaries of this garden depict a hunt and The New York Times named the design "the most outstanding topiary garden in America".
