Farmington is a town and also the county seat of Franklin County, Maine, United States of America. The town has a population of approximately 7700 people and an area of 56 square miles. Farmington is also called F-Town, Farmtown or The Farm. The area of Farmington was initially inhabited by the Abenaki Indians and used for the cultivation of maize and potatoes. In 1781, the first white settlers arrived in the area and Farmington was incorporated on February 1, 1794. The name was given to the city due to its fertile soil. Notable residents or natives of Farmington include singer Lilian Nordica, author Jacob Abbott, inventor Chester Greenwood and cross country skier Dan Simoneau.

Hiram Ramsdell House
is famous because this is an octagonal house. The house, raised in 1868 is also called the Octagon House and was added on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

University of Maine at Farmington
was the town's first public institution of higher education. The university was settled in 1864, it is a public liberal arts college and teaches students as part of the University of Maine. The institution offers teacher education, human resources education, arts and sciences classes. The school is also known as UMaine Farmington or UMF. Notable alumni of this university include comedian Bob Marley, the designer of the Panama Canal - John Frank Stevens and politician Chandler Woodcock.

Farmington Historical Society Museum
is the most important museum of Farmington. With the purpose of keeping alive the heritage of the town and teaching the locals the history of the locality they live in, the Farmington Historical Society Museum has great permanent collections of documents from the constitution of the down, old photographs, the first tools used in town and items of antique furniture. The museum also exhibits temporary collections related to the history of Franklin County and the state of Maine.
