Sumter is a principle city in South Carolina that was integrated in 1845 as Sumterville and in 1855 the name was shortened to Sumter. A Morris college serves most of the area in Sumter, which is a private liberal arts college. It is also the home for Shaw air force base and is one of the major sources of employment in Sumter.
