World's Largest Cuckoo Clock
What time is it? It's time for a road trip! From deep in the heart of Dixie comes our next Big Thing To See in the USA... the World's Largest Cuckoo Clock!
Nowadays, the kids tell time with their cell phones or their car stereos -- but remember back in the day, when visits to Grandma's house just weren't complete without one of the little yard apes asking, "Why does Grandma's clock make that weird noise?"
YES it's a cuckoo clock! But not just any Big Cuckoo Clock! This isn't a Huge Timepiece that is outdoors, or even built onto a building facade. This example of the "World's Largest" phenomenon is a real, functional cuckoo clock that you could take home and hang above your television, if you are into that kind of Big Home Decor! At over 13 feet tall, it contains a regular style clock's works and it's topped by a life-size stag's head. Amazingly, it hangs on the wall at Champ's on a single screw!
Where's "Champ's", you ask? Well, the clockmakers Dold of Germany built this amazing Big Cuckoo Clock to the order of Champ's Clock Shop in the Atlanta suburb of Douglasville, Georgia, waaayyy back in 1986! And it's been keeping good time ever since!
Displayed in a special room at the clock shop, which you can drive to in style and comfort thanks to your cheap car rental, the World's Largest Cuckoo Clock has been going, well, CUCKOO, every hour for over 25 years! The Champ's website implores you to "Take a break from mall and downtown shopping."
"A nice drive out to Champ's relaxing atmosphere and a museum-like environment is sure to bring smiles," says their site. So hop into your rental car (which undoubtedly lacks a digital dashboard clock that yells "Cuckoo! Cuckoo!" at you) and drive to Champ's Clock Shop, 3834 King Drive, Douglasville, GA 30135. It's about 20 miles West of downtown Atlanta, 15 miles Northwest of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and about 10 miles East of Arbor Place Mall in Douglasville.
Champ's is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Eastern time), but is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Champ's Clock Shop even offers private & after hours appointments for shoppers, if necessary!
