Known in its early French stages as Lafource-des-Chitimachas, Donaldsonville is located in Ascension Parish from Louisiana and it is also the county seat. Donaldsonville can be found on the banks of the Mississippi River and has a population of almost 8000 people on an area of 2.5 square miles. Donaldsonville was established in 1806 when land owner William Donaldson paid architect Barthelemy Lafon to make the plans of a new town.
