Holiday best destinations: Where to go in 2016

Summer season is just around the corner and those residing in North America and Europe are getting ready to escape the hot weather and long days.  This could involve taking some time off from work or school and going on an epic adventure. We at VroomVroomVroom always want you to have fun and have the best summer vacation - whether you're taking a long drive to visit relatives or traveling around the world to see some amazing sights. To help you choose a destination this coming season, check out VroomVroomVroom's Top 26 Best Summer Vacation Trips of 2016:

From A to Z, we start with lovely Auckland, New Zealand. The country's slogan is “100% Pure New Zealand”, and Auckland Airport is definitely the gateway to this green and clean country. New Zealand is an outdoor adventure heaven and many travelers enjoy the urban amenities of Auckland before venturing out to bungee jump, watch ocean whales, or see natural wonders like Abel Tasman National Park, Milford Sound, or the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. This summer you'll find no place in the Southern hemisphere that's nicer! (Although it's important to remember that New Zealand and Australia's seasons are the reverse of Europe and North America's.)

Barcelona is one of the most beautiful and amazing cities of Spain. Travelers may find themselves drawn to Barcelona by its 7 wonderful beaches or its famous architectural marvels. But it is La Rambla, the often-crowded central Barcelona pedestrian mall where many of our customers leave their rental cars at car parks and enjoy the 3/4-mile (1.2 kilometers) long street filled with arts & crafts, merchants of all kinds, & tasty food and drink!

Brisbane City

We're partial to Brisbane at VroomVroomVroom, but favoritism plays no part in its election to our Top 26 Best Summer Vacation Trips list. The 3rd largest city in Australia is easily the best, and it shows! Come to Brisbane (affectionately "Bris-Vegas") and check out the Australia Zoo, rock climbing, boating & fishing, and the incredible 16.8 miles (27 kilometers) of bicycle paths along the Brisbane River. The Brisbane Botanic Gardens and the world famous Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary are sure to be a hit with you, whether you're in this fine Aussie city for a day or a month!

Cape Town in South Africa is the most popular summer vacation trip destination in Africa. With its very pleasing climate, abundant natural beauty is one of the biggest attractions. Table Mountain National Park is a can't miss attraction. Hike to its peak or ride the very fun Table Mountain Cableway. VroomVroomVroom suggests that you point your rental car along the Chapman's Peak Drive. This narrow road from Hout Bay to Noordhoek provides fabulous views of the Atlantic Ocean and nearby mountains.

Christchurch is the largest city on New Zealand's South Island. The city's proximity to the Southern Alps ski fields, as well as hotels, a casino, and an airport would make any international traveler happy. As the gateway to the South Island, Christchurch was named one of the 52 Places To Go in 2014 by The New York TimesIf you like outdoor adventures like skiing, bungee jumping, or mountain biking, Christchurch is a great choice for your summer vacation this year.

Wildlife lovers will flip over the nearby sightseeing opportunities like seal, dolphin, and whale watching, and (of course) you'll also find golf courses, wineries, shopping, and plenty of entertainment options too. Japanese travelers in particular have been fond of Christchurch in the recent years, with the English/Japanese information signs in Cathedral Square as evidence of this. Unsurprisingly, there are currently 18 Japanese restaurants in the city including Kinji Japanese Restaurant located at 279b Greers Road.

Edinburgh is Scotland's capital and one of the summer vacation trip destinations that seem to increase in popularity. In Edinburgh, the richness of Scots history blends with the cosmopolitan and vibrant amenities of the 21st century. You can see striking architecture, breathtaking scenery, and the beautiful countryside and coast thanks to the nearby Lothians - the surrounding region of the Scottish Lowlands. The annual Edinburgh International Festival is one of the many events that run between the end of July and early September annually, also including world famous events like the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and the Edinburgh International Book Festival.

Gold Coast is Australia's premiere sun, surf, and swim destination. This tourism mecca is one of the Top 5 International Visitor Aussie Hotspots, with over 13,000 guest rooms in the city and local area. Amazing surf beaches like Burleigh Heads are complimented by many wonderful attractions, including Dreamworld, Sea World, Wet'n'Wild Water World, Warner Bros. The gigantic weekly market in Salamanca Place also attracts tourists.

Honolulu Hawaii

Another cool island city, Honolulu, is probably the most famous American vacation spot for summer (and all year round), because it's been immortalized so often in films and television shows. The iconic luaus, parties revolving around a feast, music and entertainment like hula, are famous attractions for tourists. Relaxing on the beautiful beaches, or seeing the amazing views of the island and ocean from Diamond Head volcano, are also great reasons to visit Honolulu.

Las Vegas is the largest, most famous, and simply the coolest gambling and show destination in the United States. It's said that the Las Vegas Strip, the 4-mile/7-kilometer stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard South just south of the city limits is the most scenic road on the continent. And at night, anyone can see why! A summer vacation trip may end up being expensive (it is for many gamblers), but if you go to the Sin City to see a show or watch a fight, it can be an affordable and fun alternative to the beach! Another awesome fact about Las Vegas  is that 15 of the 25 biggest hotels on Earth are located here.

#11 - LONDON

London, England, is the capital of the United Kingdom and Europe's most visited city. Attractions like the British Museum, National Gallery, London Eye, Madame Tussauds, National Maritime Museum, and the Tower of London attract over 2 million visitors every month.

Melbourne is another city that is often visited in Australia, and it attracts many tourists from both within and outside Australia. The city's popularity is mainly because of its world-class attractions such as Federation Square, Crown Casino, Melbourne Zoo, Melbourne Aquarium, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne Museum, and Melbourne Cricket Ground.

This is the first Canadian city on our list! Dinner theaters and souvenir shops also dot this summer hotspot.

If you can make it in New York City, you can make it anywhere! Or so the late, great Frank Sinatra sang to us. The largest city in the USA is a great summer getaway for those who prefer Broadway to the beach, the Statue of Liberty instead of an island volcano, or New York Yankees baseball instead of Vegas casinos. But seriously, New York is one of the world's greatest cities, and you really need to see it at least once in your lifetime.

Niagara Falls is the amazing attraction on the border of United States and Canada. In fact, you might plan seeing the spectacular falls in Canada one time, and go back and see them from the American side at a later time. Of course, VroomVroomVroom provides cheap car rental comparison for both cities.

Orlando is the “Theme Park Capital of the World” thanks to Walt Disney World, SeaWorld, and Universal Orlando Resort. Paris, France, sees over 3.5 million visitors per month, thanks in part to its iconic attractions, such as Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Champs-Elysees, and the Arc de Triomphe. Paris is also happily known for experiencing the fewest rainy days in the French nation.

Queenstown is one of the summer vacation trip destinations that we love in New Zealand. Rotorua is a North Island city in New Zealand, and is an amazing place to spend your next summer break. Whether cruising around the area in a cheap car rental, or enjoying its proximity to the Bay of Plenty (Te Moana-a-Toi), Rotorua is just spectacular! Visitors love the gorgeous Bay of Plenty, which is the region around the city of Rotorua (a.k.a. "Roto-Vegas"). This place is known for its active geothermal attractions, causing a not-so-awesome sulfur smell of rotten eggs, and the many lakes laced through and around Rotorua. The city has retained its traditional cultural essence and visitors can learn about and be exposed to the Maori culture.

San Francisco is the laid-back, coolest city on the American West Coast. One out of every seven people employed in this city is working in tourism; and due to its famed image in pop culture, it's the 5th most visited U.S. city by people from other nations. San Francisco is also a popular destination for convention and conference organizers.

Sydney city

#23 - SYDNEY

Sydney is another great summer vacation destination in Australia. Museums like the ROM, or Royal Ontario Museum, the magnificent Toronto Zoo, Ripley's Aquarium of Canada, and the world-famous CN Tower attract summer holiday visitors from all around the globe. It may be surprising to some travelers, but as one of Canada's mildest cities, summer in Toronto can get quite hot.

Vancouver is Western Canada's major metropolis, and its mild climate makes it a wonderful summer vacation trip destination. It's close to the Pacific Ocean, mountains, rivers and lakes, and the city itself has 3200 acres (1300 hectares) of parks, including the huge Stanley Park. Vancouver has several large beaches, and coastlines making boating and water recreation easy. Plus, it is only 30 minutes away from the North Shore Mountains and their 3 ski areas.
