2. Malibu Castle. Try out the Malibu Castle and 'grand prix' on Blomquist Street which has a whole range of activities for kids of all ages, whether you are 9 or 90 ! There is grand prix racing or miniature/crazy golf and even batting cages to unleash your frustrations.

3. Lathrop House. Visit Lathrop House, at 627 Hamilton Avenue. It was built in 1863 and enjoys a reputation as an outstanding architectural 'romantic' type construction. Opening times are restricted but even just looking from the outside is a real treat.

4. Filoli Center. Spend a day at the Filoli Center in Woodside, close to Redwood. It is a massive 654 acre estate which was actually built during the first World War and completed in 1919. There are some really interesting buildings with a mansion, Italian inspired Renaissance tea room and even a 'carriage house'.

5. Recreation Parks. Take a trip to the Bayfront Park, a beautiful are for wildlife, situated on the site of a former landfill rubbish tip. You can really feel that you are at one with nature and there are few people to distract you, although there are lots of animals.

2. Eaton Big Canyon Trail. This is one of many hiking and walking trails in the San Carlos area (left). This is a highlight because of the well-marked trail, which has information at every 1/10th mile interval. Facts about the wildlife, plants and area are posted along each marker.

3. Hiller Aviation Museum. Hiller Aviation Museum is a museum that explores man's fascination with flight. The museum gives families the chance to learn about the history of flight while looking toward the future. Each summer, it hosts a variety of camps and activities for kids in grades 1 through 6. It's at 601 Skyway Road.

4. Burton Park. Every summer, San Carlos' Burton Park hosts its Summer Concert series. Every Friday in July and August, enjoy a picnic supper and listen to music such as jazz, swing, and country-rock.

5. Hot Harvest Night. Hot Harvest Night happens every Thursday starting in early May and runs all summer. Over 50 vendors set up shop on Laurel Street, which is closed to traffic and where shops and restaurants stay open late.
